Quick answers first; a real person after that.
Adding books
Drop files into the Reverie folder in iCloud Drive — from any device, including a PC through iCloud for Windows or iCloud.com — and they appear in the app everywhere. You can also use the share sheet or Files import on iPhone and iPad, or drag files into the window on a Mac.
Supported formats
- Audiobooks —
.m4b,.m4a,.mp3, and every audio format Apple's frameworks play. - Books — DRM-free
.epub. EPUBs protected by DRM can't be opened, by design. - Comics —
.cbz,.cbr, and.pdf, with manga and webtoon reading modes.
Sync and downloads
Everything syncs through your own iCloud — positions, bookmarks, and metadata via CloudKit, files via iCloud Drive. Books stream their download when you tap them; books you're partway through re-download automatically if iCloud frees up space, and you can remove downloads any time from a book's context menu or Settings.
If books don't appear
- Check that iCloud Drive is enabled and every device is signed into the same Apple Account.
- Give a freshly-added large file a moment — iCloud uploads it from the source device before others can see it.
- Without iCloud, Reverie runs a device-local library instead; files added on one device stay on that device.
